The architecture of adaptive sensory environments is a catalyst, through which occupants can learn. The journey toward greater occupant fulfillment begins with mindset–beliefs about intelligence, effort, learning and achievement. Once a growth mindset is sparked, occupants will be more receptive and even eager to engage in those mindful purpose-driven moments that fuel success. The growth mindset, by comparison, proves to be much more beneficial. As one can see, the initial belief that effort is key to success creates a mindset where greater fulfillment becomes possible–particularly as in life, effort is required to adjust to the changing external and internal conditions that present themselves. Habits can lead occupants toward or away from fulfillment. Through an incremental improvement loop, adaptive architecture can nurture practice, feedback and improvement to help occupants. Through adaptive sensory design, environments can go from being painful draining experiences for occupants, toward being healthy and enriching ones.
