ABSTRACT

Transactional analysts have for many years worked with clients with suicidal ideation, and have tended to understand their client's urges as indicative of the presence of a don't exist injunction (Goulding and Goulding, 1979; Stewart, 2007) and related to their script payoff (Berne, 1972). Understanding suicidal ideation only as a manifestation of a don't exist injunction and an indication of a third-degree script payoff (Berne, 1964) is insuf®cient in understanding what is a complex phenomenon.
