This chapter describes the current state of research as it relates to training and supervision on therapist crying and provides training and supervision guidelines and sample exercises to address therapists' tears. It develops a three-part training exercise to serve as a framework for facilitating reflection and learning about the topic of therapists' crying in therapy. As a first step, it is important to increase participants' awareness and understanding of their own tears. The experiential practices may evoke strong or uncomfortable emotions for participants. The second portion of the training aims to increase participants' awareness of their own feelings about and reactions to other people's tears, and how this impacts their experience of clients' tears. The final portion of the training focuses on therapists' tears in therapy by specifically evoking beliefs about and experiences with therapists' tears in therapy.
