ABSTRACT

Expertise plays several roles in the Responsive Professional Learning process. This chapter looks at each stage of the Responsive Professional Learning cycle and provides some examples of how to work in expert support and challenge. It describes some of the many ways that schools can and should be harnessing expertise – both outside of their institution and networks and also by building expert capacity within the school. There are many sources of expertise available via a web browser or smartphone app. Expertise can support teachers to develop the skilled content knowledge and understanding. Expert input in pedagogy can support teachers to best meet their students' needs and enable them to understand the content. When looking for a quality engagement with a higher education institution, it is useful to look for academics who work regularly with teachers and schools.
