ABSTRACT

Resource productivity is critical for achieving resource-based SDGs, namely food (SDG2), water (SDG 6) and energy (SDG 7) security, and important motivation for adopting a nexus approach. Other aspects of the nexus must, however, not be neglected in order to achieve sustainable development. Based on examples and case studies, we show the importance of considering (also) the social and environmental dimension when adopting a nexus approach. Integrating the social and environmental dimension implies the need for a participatory approach and explicit representation in nexus tools and scenarios. This chapter aims to highlight the necessity of including innovative tools such as ecosystem service and participatory approaches in the assessment of the WEF nexus to adopt resources management to achieve Sustainable development.
