ABSTRACT

Swarm intelligence and evolutionary algorithms are nature inspired algorithms that mimics some natural phenomenon. Nowadays, these algorithms are very popular in solving complex optimization problems with different degree of complexity and also helpful in diagnosis of deadly diseases. Swarm intelligence and evolutionary algorithms are the emerging areas of research for solving optimization problems in biomedical field, and recently many researchers have proposed various algorithms by modelling the natural behaviour of animals and insects such as ants, birds, bees, termites and fishes. In this chapter, the study of swarm intelligence and evolutionary algorithms in disease diagnosis is introduced briefly and also investigation is conducted on some background studies which are considered as prototype for the biomedical field. In recent times, varied techniques are proposed to assist biomedical professionals to reduce the time in diagnosing various diseases with the help of computational intelligence. This chapter gives comprehensive idea regarding swarm intelligence as well as evolutionary algorithms in diagnosing different diseases.
