ABSTRACT

Cancer may be considered a disease that causes maximum deaths in the world. As the life expectancy is at rise, so is the number of cancer cases that has reached to an unprecedented level. Considering this situation, drug industry has taken a major step in terms of investment in the related therapeutic areas. Setting apart these advances, cancer drug research can still be considered as a remarkably challenging field where the therapeutic interventions are yet to achieve the expected clinical results. In spite of these challenges, it can be claimed that research has tremendously contributed in other related aspects such as better understanding of the physiopathology of the disease, revamping the expectation levels of the improved treatment which are currently being practiced . The major issue in drug designing for cancer treatment is selection of appropriate drug and taking care of its side effects in the cancerous body. In order to tackle the problem of effective antibiotic selection and delivery, in the process of drug designing various computer scientists have proposed Swarm intelligence as well as evolutionary algorithms to address the issue. The chapter is mainly about the drug designing issues, challenges and development process. It also focusses over the various Swarm intelligence and evolutionary algorithms that have been proposed by researchers to address various challenges faced in the drug development process.
