ABSTRACT
In the preceding chapters it was suggested that there are few areas in prehistoric archaeology in which there has been sufficient emphasis on symbolism and conceptual schemes. Such an emphasis is of importance in reconstructing the past since material culture transforms, rather than reflects, social organisation according to the strategies of groups, their beliefs, concepts and ideologies. In this chapter I wish to consider briefly some broader aspects of a less behaviourally and less ecologically oriented archaeology.
