ABSTRACT
It was not until the 1960's, with the advent of lasers, that the analysis of small volumes of sample using Raman spectroscopy became feasible. Indeed, before that, the use of mercury lamp sources precluded the possibility of analyzing volumes of sample smaller than several cm3 because of their low brilliance.
