ABSTRACT

Certified reference materials (CRMs) for use in electron microprobes for carbon and nitrogen are being developed as the main objective in a European collaborative project “Electron-probe Microanalysis of Light Elements: measurement methods and certified reference materials”- The methodology for the analysis of light elements is being established which is to be validated by carrying out an interlaboratory intercomparison. The project has been in progress for about 2 years during which time the CRMs have been produced and the degree of heterogeneity established. Progress has also been made on drafting the methodology. The CRMs are to be made available through the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM) in Geel, Belgium, and the information on development of the methodology will be an input into ISO TC 202 in order to draft international standards. This paper reports current progress of the work.
