ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology gained a great importance in the field of science over a decade, owing to its smaller size, physiochemical properties, and harmless biological absorption in the human drug delivery systems. Even though nanoparticles (NPs) and their formulations have its wide array of applications in various segments such as industrial, electrical, and chemical sectors, its application in biomedical fields is focused more recently worldwide. Thus, in this chapter, the biosynthesis of NPs using fungi and the applications of the synthesized particles in biomedical sectors are discussed in detail. The green synthesis of NPs has been attributed to have higher beneficial asp ects than physio-chemical methods due to less intervention of hazardous chemicals into the procedures. Among the microbes, fungi, due to its broad mycelia, provide a higher surface-area-to-volume ratio, thus enhancing the yield. It is the need of the hour to have a thorough understanding regarding the biosynthesis of metallic NPs from fungi and their various applications.
