ABSTRACT
Biomedical engineering is not one discipline, but several interacting disciplines that coexist under the same umbrella. A classic description of biomedical engineering is the application of the principles of engineering design and analysis to problems in medicine and the life sciences. With this general description, “biomedical engineers” may have widely different backgrounds depending on the particular subspecialty that they are involved with. In keeping with this fact, biomedical engineering programs usually offer several different tracks or concentrations that build on one or more engineering disciplines.
