TA as an existential psychotherapy

As a model of psychotherapy, people have claimed different philosophical allegiances for TA. I agree with Clarkson (1992), who feels TA is part of the humanistic and existential tradition. Berne referenced, and was in¯uenced by, existential authors such as Kierkegaard (Berne, 1966) and indeed in Principles of Group Treatment discusses links between transactional analysis and existential therapy (Berne, 1966).
