ABSTRACT
TOWARDS the end of this year of sordid happenings the Emperor’s health, precarious for seven years past, began to fail rapidly. In December it became apparent that he was on his death-bed, and the daily bulletins were scanned with anxious concern. The end came on Christmas Day, 1926.
