ABSTRACT
As the rate of the chronometers as well as their fixed relationship to mean time at the observatory had been corrected the day before by means of various absolute altitudes taken on the nearby beach with the sextant, there was no possible error in these instruments at the moment of departure. Therefore a further correction was omitted while we were in positions where we could obtain very reliable bearings.
