ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book starts by exploring what motivation models inform us about reward and how we can use these insights to craft approaches that retain the best people, whilst not ignoring others in the organisation. It reviews some of the current issues in talent management, guiding the reader to think more strategically about each. The book explores how you build an effective talent management (ETM) strategy and then how to execute it. ETM is a systematic approach starting with the business aims. The whole purpose of any ETM strategy is to support the organisation's achievement of its strategic goals. The deployment of the right people, into the right roles, at the right time is the most critical part of talent management. The book summarises how talent is a critical part of business success.
