ABSTRACT

Most people feel that the water in their town or city has no taste. They are surprised when visitors comment on it, and compare it unfavourably with the water from their own locality. People also disagree about whether distilled water is tasteless. While some call it tasteless, others say it is bitter and yet others consider it to be insipid or flat (Bartoshuk, 1968). These differences did not surprise Bartoshuk, who argued that the taste of water depends on what is previously tasted.
