ABSTRACT

As a teacher begins to plan his or her implementation of the Dual Objective, there are a number of questions that should be answered thoughtfully and carefully. The teacher should build the teams, and point out why they will be successful. The teams should gather as an entity nearly every day that class meets, so it is seen as a regular part of how the world operates. Teams who understand and follow consensus protocols often learn to mediate disagreements and challenges productively, but if this does not occur you will need to remedy the situation. Drawing on participation in sports teams, musical groups, scouts, faith-affiliated groups, family events, service groups, and drawing on previous Cooperative Learning (CL) experience in classes, etc. While the science of composing groups can be seen as rather "soft," the size of the group and the recognition of balancing traits and experiences is widely supported by many advocates of CL.
