ABSTRACT

This part introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters. The part discusses the heart of the teacher evaluation system. It presents the domains, associated performance standards, and a wealth of job-specific performance indicators for teachers and six different resource/specialty positions. Since the jobs performed by classroom teachers and resource/specialty area teachers differ, the domains, performance standards, and performance indicators reflect those differences. The part explores two examples of classroom teacher evaluation systems, one with five domains and the other with four domains. The domains and standards are the same across all six resource/specialty positions. The six positions are: english second language teacher, gifted/talented enrichment teacher, preschool teacher, reading recovery teacher, reading specialist teacher and special education resource teacher.
