ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 offers a reading of Louise Erdrich’s novel Tracks, showcasing Erdrich’s skill at evoking historical and literary traditions of both Native and Western culture. The chapter attempts to show how many of the critical strategies and historical resonances discussed throughout the book can be applied to Erdrich’s masterful narrative, providing a useful guide for students and instructors who hope to center their readings of Native literature in tribally informed perspectives. The chapter concludes with an examination of Erdrich’s more recent novel, The Round House.
