ABSTRACT

The major target of this chapter is to identify the country-specific critical mass, critical years, technological take-off interval and the length of the pre-take-off stage across high-income and upper-middle-income countries between 1990 and 2015. Next, in this chapter, it is our aim to answer under which conditions countries leave the pre-take-off stage, break out of technological stagnation and enter exponential growth along ICT diffusion trajectories. To this aim, we have selected a bundle of infrastructural, economic and institutional conditions which might be potentially recognized as decisive factors enforcing, or hindering, the emergence of the technological take-off. The last part of this chapter discusses the results of the panel regression analysis, aiming to discover the seminal determinants of the process of ICT diffusion between 1990 and 2015 in developed countries.
