ABSTRACT
The ocean is an ideal environment for the production of energy crops, because it represents 70$ of the earth’s surface and is not heavily used for other purposes. Its plant life, particularly the macroalgae (seaweeds), is highly productive and readily converted to fuel at high efficiency. With few exceptions, such plants are not in demand for other purposes such as food or fiber.
