ABSTRACT

This chapter considers modifications of a rank test for the one-dimensional case, multidimensional fixed (regular) design case, and one-dimensional and multidimensional random design cases. The first alternative is that there exists a pairwise disjoint partition. The second alternative is that there exists an arbitrary ‘asymptotically continuous’ trend in location. The chapter considers the change points or change surfaces for the first alternative and the second alternative. It discusses the hypothesis of randomness and the asymptotic behavior of the Wald-Wolfowitz statistic. The chapter provides a set of numerical experiments with regard to image processing for edge detection, and discusses different empirical distribution functions.
