ABSTRACT

For the past nine years I have been part of a seminar group involving Sally Berry, Margaret Green, Tom Ryan and Joseph Schwartz. Our wide-ranging discussions over many topics have been a forum for thinking through clinical and theoretical issues. The Women's Therapy Centre Institute in New York has also been a source of background support and my conversations over the years with Luise Eichenbaum and Carol Bloom have helped my thinking greatly. An often unacknowledged discourse is that which occurs between a reader and the professional papers she reads. The journal Psychoanalytic Dialogues has been important to me in this way. I was also very fortunate in my own analysis to have had as committed, generous and gifted an analyst as Anne-Marie Sandler.
