ABSTRACT
Modern car sharing was born in Switzerland in 1987, since when it has quickly developed into an ever more customer-friendly and attractive service. As of mid-2000, the world market leader, ‘Mobility Car-Sharing Switzerland’, will offer decentralised car rental on an hourly basis in over 700 locations in more than 400 communes. Around 38,000 customers will have 1,400 self-service mobility cars available round the clock. Reserve, drive, pay: that’s how easy it is. The service is supported by Energy 2000, the Swiss National Energy Efficiency Programme, and its modest financial contribution has helped in product development, market development and business administration since 1992.
