ABSTRACT

To conclude this panorama of research, it may be useful to measure the distance covered since the programme outlined by an earlier work of synthesis (Boyer, 1986) and the Barcelona colloquium (Économie et Sociétés, 1989, 1990). The proposal was to undertake new case studies in order to extend régulation theory’s area, to formalise the macroeconomic mechanisms underlying Fordism and to investigate again the origins of major crises. This programme of research led to an analysis of crises in real time and made an appeal for a more assertive contribution to the theory and history of economic institutions.
