ABSTRACT

Digital storytelling was of keen interest to Arden (pseudonym). The Heroes project represented her second try at the genre. The year before, students had created individual iMovies that represented contemporary interpretations of Macbeth, a project that, in Arden’s eyes, “failed miserably” (interview, June 2008). In the second iteration, Arden partnered with Blue Metropolis, a local Montreal organization committed to raising awareness of literacy and story; the group hosts an annual literary event and partners with schools to create books based on community-based themes. The transformation of the project and partnership into a digital story, using an

application called VoiceThread, was entirely Arden’s creation within the “Learning With Laptops” professional development initiative.
