ABSTRACT

My role at LIFT needed clarification and a name. No specific training or guidelines existed. As a bridge-builder between the needs and resources of the business world and those of LIFT, my role was essentially that of interpreter. ‘Fundraiser’ seemed too narrow a definition for I was not solely engaged in the search for funds. The term ‘Development Director’ settled on me from 1986-95 when my role was to be responsible for developing relationships in a range of ways, rather than simply seeking money.
