ABSTRACT

Description: Thyrogen is a recombinant human thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) produced in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells using recombinant DNA techniques. The active hormone is a hetrodimer, consisting of a 92-amino acid α-subunit and a 118-amino acid β-subunit held together noncovalently. Both subunits are glycosylated. The recombinant product consists of a number of different isoforms, which slightly differ from the natural protein due to differences in post-translational processing. Nevertheless, activity comparable to the natural hormone is retained. It binds TSH receptors and stimulates iodine uptake and the production of thyroid hormones. Thyrogen is presented as a lyophilized powder (0.9 mg active/vial) to be reconstituted before intramuscular administration.
