ABSTRACT

In some ways progressive democratic change has begun, with regional democratic movements sweeping across Eastern Europe, the USSR, and the beginnings in China. The suffering and destruction resulting from the militarization of our planet is evident in more than the actual wars. A democratic world order means something else entirely. It is the only global structure that will work in this interdependent world. Democratic world order means international laws and cooperation to protect and ensure a sustainable environment for the future generations. In short, it means managing the world in a rational manner for the benefit of all peoples, and with an abiding respect for life itself on this unique planet. In addition to the movements toward regional democracy, the logical place to begin the foundation for a democratic world order is to democratize the United Nations, which includes far more public involvement.
