ABSTRACT
Based on structure and mechanism, these topoisomerases are grouped into type I and type II, each of which is further divided into subfamily A and subfamily B. Type I enzymes carry out strand passage through a reversible single-strand break, whereas type II enzymes mediate strand transport through a double-strand DNA gate.
