Along with the concentration of capital, the industry concentrated spatially. The emerging hubs were a few towns in western and southern India. These towns and regions enabled a substantial increase in the capacity to trade over long distances, attracted migrants, led to improvements in technology, and to the emergence of politically connected and influential groups and individuals from within the weaving community. The chapter studies these emerging urban systems.
