First published in The Weekly True Sun, 1 September 1833, p. 5. It was reprinted by Hunt in The True Sun (see headnote above, pp. 229–30) on 6 September 1833, p. 3; and in Hunt, Literary, pp. 457–60. The Weekly True Sun was a radical newspaper published from 10 February 1833 to 29 December 1839 (see Waterloo Directory, vol. vii, p. 4942). It was published jointly with The True Sun (see Victorian Periodicals, eds. J. Don Vann and Rosemary T. Van Arsdel (New York: Modern Language Association of America, 1978) p. 161). Samuel Laman Blanchard served as an editor on both papers. In an undated note, he wrote to Hunt that ‘we all agree…that your this week’s Townsman is the Very Finest of his family’ (Brewer, Letters, p. 267).
