ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a case study on transferring learning systems technology to corporate training centers. It discusses the project management approach that empowered successful completion of the project. The chapter characterizes the technical approach that enabled us to build an application that was acceptable to the student users as well as the multiple stakeholders. It highlights the significant positive impact of this initial technology transfer project on the corporate training environment and reflects on the potential for transferring more advanced interactive learning technologies. The chapter presents our perspective on the stakeholders' needs and how the project management approach influenced our ability to understand and accommodate them. Obtaining a firm organizational commitment to the long-term objective requires an R&D strategy that addresses the significant pragmatic issues associated with demonstrating credibility, proving feasibility, justifying funding, and establishing corporate relevancy.
