ABSTRACT

Chinese and English are the languages used by most people in the world. The difference between them is much greater than the difference between Western languages. Therefore, translating between Chinese and English is the most important and difficult task. If a translation theory does not address the problems of translation between Chinese and English (or other Western languages), it can’t be an important international translation theory. Translation theory involves some important issues. The first is the nature of translation; the second is the purpose of translation; the third is the methods of translation. In the 1730s, the influential French translator named Perrot d’Ablancourt, translated many Greek and Roman works, such as Tacitus’s Annals. He had been trying to achieve “beauty” in his translation. Translation is a process of remolding the source text. The process of transmitting the original beauty in the prosody and form in translation is a process of remolding and reinvention.
