ABSTRACT

The smiles of hunters who pose beside animals they killed often represent one of the most offensive aspects of trophy hunting for critics of the practice. The implications for analysing the smiles of trophy hunters should be clear. Many saw the smile of Hacksaw in that interview as that of a psychopath enjoying his infamy and reliving his experience with relish. The pattern of fixations and perceptions provides the basis for the memory. The patterns differ for optimists and pessimists because of their desires to regulate their mood states linked to their underlying personalities. Sir Frederic Bartlett began by recognising the constructive nature of human memory and devised ingenious experiments to show the constructive and transformational process in action. Photographs play a major role in the reconstructive processes of human memories. The photographs were intended to appeal to a peer group to draw admiration and praise.
