ABSTRACT

This chapter establishes the book's purpose and key definitions used within. These include definitions for online learning, blended learning and digital literacies, with the discussions developed to introduce effective e-tutoring within higher education. The e-tutoring context is discussed where e-tutors commonly practice, which includes an introduction to learners' personal learning networks. The challenge of effective peer-to-peer interaction is considered alongside the value of social constructivist models of e-learning for e-tutors.
