ABSTRACT

The complex variable technique has been discussed previously in isotropic and anisotropic media for a variety of problems. In this Chapter the transform method is applied for a crack in an orthotropic plate under bending and twisting moments. The stress intensity factor is obtained directly forming the integral equation which was solved by the standard technique. It is observed that the stress intensity factor for bending is the same as that in the isotropic plate independent of the orthotropic property. In the second category problem, the fracture analysis of an anti-plane shear crack for a finite linearly varying functionally graded media is discussed. The effect of the functionally graded parameter is studied as also the thickness of the layer on the stress intensity factor.
