ABSTRACT

Assessment of which is the company’s ‘main’ motivating factor has been made on the basis of the data obtained through the interviews with key informants in the companies. All are companies which were included in the study on the basis of the ‘green’ products which they manufacture. Further studies based on a larger sample of companies will be needed in order to develop a typology which distinguishes more clearly between motivational categories. Despite the apparent functionality of the typology described, it is acknowledged that the divisions between the categories of motivational factors are (as noted earlier) somewhat arbitrary. According to company sources, there were a number of factors involved in motivating the company to adopt ecologically sustainable processes in their production. To support the development of green industry in Australia, it is essential that community awareness be raised about the importance of production being ‘green’, for the sake of the planet and future generations.
