ABSTRACT

Since the publication of the rst empirical supervision article in 1958 (Harkness & Poertner, 1989), nearly 300 empirical articles regarding counseling supervision have been published in journals such as The Clinical Supervisor, The Counseling Psychologist, Counselor Education and Supervision, Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, Journal of Counseling & Development, Journal of Counseling Psychology, Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, and Psychotherapy: Theory, Research, Practice, and Training. is gure represents both a comparative lag in research on supervision when compared to counseling research (Goodyear, Bunch, & Claiborn, 2005) and a modest growth in interest in counseling research over the last few decades (Inman & Ladany, 2008; Ladany & Inman, in press). Indeed, nearly one third of these articles have been published during the eight years since the last update of this chapter (Ladany & Muse-Burke, 2001).
