ABSTRACT
The digital supply chain relies on large amounts of data from a wide variety of sources, including internally generated and managed data, as well as external data. Customer data, supplier data, third-party logistics firms, not to mention internal transaction system data from supply chain functions, are just a very few examples of the digital information streams flowing in supply chains. The reality for many firms facing the transition to being more digital in their operations is that they may not currently have an adequate and coordinated risk management function in place. The digital supply chain leader should seek to build risk management checkpoints in their cross-functional segment design and development efforts. Firms could focus on the critical high-risk areas or choose to become excellent in a select number of them. Risk management practice has often promoted the idea that firms may be able to turn certain types of risks into a source of competitive advantage.
