ABSTRACT
Nanocomposits of starches with layered silicate clays is another approach to improve the physical properties of starch based fi lms (Tang and others 2008a, b). Smectite clays are the type mostly used in polymer clay nanocomposites due to their swelling properties and capacity to host water and organic molecules between their platelet layers. These clays have high cation exchange capacity, large surface area and high aspect ratio (Chen and others 2008).
