ABSTRACT
The goals of the COST-CIVITAS programme are ambitious. The results should help us understand and interpret new urban challenges for Europe and provide a point of view for urban policies. The knowledge should be transferred from one city, country and culture to another, whether this information concerns the entire European urban system or only one city or type of city. The programme should help European cities advance economically and socially.
