ABSTRACT

The first point to make is that we communicate both verbally and non-verbally. Verbal communication refers to what we say while non-verbal communication focuses on the manner in which we communicate. Non-verbal communication strategies include: facial expressions, body posture, gestures, eye contact and proximity. Non-language, verbal strategies refer to volume, tone and pitch of voice. Communication is complex in that individuals do not always say what they mean or mean what they say. Communication involves much more than just listening to what is being said but involves paying attention to non-verbal communication.
