ABSTRACT
In the United States, construction is defined by several characteristics, which together point to the importance of skilled labor within the industry and the challenges faced by the industry in maintaining a skilled workforce. These defining characteristics are turbulence, localness, custom production, and the structure of subcontracting in the construction market.
