ABSTRACT

A semester later, I happened to be in New York on an invitation to visit the Rockefeller University, and I ended up spending much of my time at Columbia talking to Eilenberg and his associates. One day, Sammy told me he had a young student who claimed that he could do set theory without elements. It was hard to understand the idea, and he wondered if I could talk with the student.
