ABSTRACT

This type of floor has cast-in-situ reinforced concrete beams with hollow clay or terra cotta in-filling blocks cast in between the beams. Advantages are:- saving in weight, saving in quantity of concrete, good resistance to damage by fire, and it is possible to accommodate conduits within the topping screed. The thickness of the floor and amount of reinforcement will depend upon the span and the superimposed load. In some types of floor the concrete beams or ribs extend the f full depth of the floor, but in others a clay slip tile is used at the bottom of the ribs. This reduces the possibility of pattern staining occurring, gives better resistance to fire and provides a uniform key for plaster.
