ABSTRACT

In an urbanizing world, ever more people need drivers of their settlements economic development found. The chapter evaluates the role of inbound educational tourism in post-industrial urban areas economic progress, as well as to detecting an appropriate inbound educational tourism form to develop in a certain urban area. The results of the research can be used for working out an urban area economic growth strategy. Existing approaches to identifying the essence of educational tourism are characterised by either non-inclusion of it in the scope of tourism (which is confirmed by the fact that studying abroad requires not a tourist visa, but a student visa) or one-sidedness (educational tourism is considered solely as consumers' activity). According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) (2016a), modern tourism, which is notable for robust demand, is a very important global services trade category and, in recent years, it has risen quicker than the whole international trade.
