ABSTRACT
Imperial Capitals’ or merely important cities, and on whether they retain important status as ‘Provincial Capitals’ in federal nation-states. This chapter attempts a global comparison of the role of twentieth-century urban design in making capital cities appear as a distinctive type of place.
