ABSTRACT

China's Ministry of Commerce is responsible for the design and implementation of the institutional framework for China's trade policies. Both the United States (US) and China agreed to increase cooperation on food safety measures and expand protection of trade secrets. General Motors has made a substantial investment in manufacturing facilities in China. When the US learned that China was using certain standards with respect to providing subsidies contingent on export performance, it initiated yet another dispute settlement case with the World Trade Organization on February 11, 2015. Moreover, US Trade Representative, Ambassador Michael Froman became concerned on February 27, 2015 about a Chinese proposed banking regulation that would require high-tech companies to forfeit patented technologies and intellectual property to the Chinese authorities. Within the framework of the Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade, the US and China held talks from November 21 to November 23, 2015.
